Welding, Cutting & Brazing Compliance Calendar Software (1910 Subpart Q)
OSHA's Welding, Cutting and Brazing standards (29 CFR 1910 Subpart Q) cover fire prevention during hot work, ventilation requirements, equipment safety, and specific requirements for oxygen-fuel gas welding, arc welding, and resistance welding. Hot work permits, fire watch documentation, equipment inspections, ventilation monitoring, and training requirements all create recurring compliance obligations.
Our Welding Compliance Calendar Software and mobile app ensures every hot work permit, equipment inspection, training requirement, and program review is scheduled, tracked, and documented.
Key Welding Compliance Deadlines
Hot Work Permits
Issue hot work permit before welding, cutting, or brazing outside designated areas. Supervisor must inspect area, verify fire precautions, and authorize in writing.
Fire Watch
Post fire watch during hot work and for at least 30 minutes after completion. Fire watchers must have extinguishing equipment and training.
Welder/Cutter Training
Train welders, cutters, and supervisors on safe operation of equipment and safe practices before performing hot work.
Equipment Inspections
Inspect welding equipment before each use including hoses, regulators, torch tips, electrode holders, grounding connections, and cables.
Equipment Maintenance
Maintain welding machines, gas manifold systems, regulators, and ventilation equipment per manufacturer schedules.
Cylinder Inspections
Inspect gas cylinders for damage, leaks, and proper labeling. Verify proper storage (upright, secured, valves and regulators capped, oxygen separated from fuel gas by 20 feet or fire wall).
Ventilation Monitoring
Monitor ventilation during welding to ensure adequate airflow. Mechanical ventilation required in confined spaces and for toxic metals. Minimum 2,000 cfm per welder.
Hot Work Program Review
Review hot work program including permit procedures, designated welding areas, fire watch protocols, and training effectiveness.
PPE Inspections
Inspect welding helmets, filter lenses, protective clothing, gloves, and shields before use. Replace damaged or deteriorated PPE.
Confined Space Hot Work
Comply with confined space entry requirements per 1910.146 when performing welding or cutting in confined or enclosed spaces. Requires atmospheric testing and ventilation.
